What I Learned: Meiji Shrine

The Meiji Jingu Shrine: the first shrine I ever visited.

In Shinto, it is a practice to wash your hands and mouth first before entering the shrine, mainly as an act of physical and mental cleansing. A water place stands at the gate where visitors are provided with a water scoop to wash their left hand, right hand, and then mouth, in that order.
